Justice & Peace
Thank you to the Clifton Justice & Peace Group who under the direction of local members, Ozzie Field and Hugh Dowson organised a very successful Bath meeting to outline relevant issues of Social Justice Concerns. This initiative arose due to the Columban Fathers contacting the Diocese to offer their special expertise gained from years of missionary work overseas. They have provided the Diocese with a wealth of resources to enable Deaneries and parishes to face the problems of modern challenges.
In an excellent meeting at Manvers Street a whole range of topics were covered with very interesting speakers and shared discussion groups. Thank you to our local Pastoral Council for their opening Welcome speech from Peter Turner and a presentation of the new Street Pastors initiative at Radstock given by Assistant Prior at Downside Abbey, Fr. Michael Clothier. For more details of the meeting, contact Ozzie Field.
A very successful celebration of the many activities for Justice around the Clifton Diocese took place recently in Bath. The gathering included Christians and Muslims and was led by the Columbian Missionary Team as a thanksgiving for being received during the last year by parishes in our diocese. The themes covered in the day included, 'What Jesus said about Justice and how the Catholic Church’s teaching has developed on social issues'. There were sessions on 'working with young people' and 'praying the media news'.
Samples of work in the diocese included: Street Pastors; Responding to Climate Change; Outreach to Muslim women; and Concern for TTIP.
All who attended go forward in hope that the kingdom of God will come on earth. The next conference, not to be missed, will be on Saturday, 14th March 2015 at St Brendan’s College.
