Irene Prentice attended a Mass celebrated by Fr Edu Garriguez of CARITAS Philippines on 9th July. Fr Edu expressed his sincere gratitude to the people in the parishes of Clifton Diocese for support given to CARITAS Philippines in helping one million people affected by Typhoon Haiyan and sustaining the hope of the Filipino people.
Global warming causes climate extremes that hit the poor hardest. CAFOD donated close to £2 million and is the biggest donor to CARITAS Philippines.
Fr Edu made this poignant comment, “The cry of the environment is also a cry of the poor. We need to consider the ecological issue of climate change, and we need to come together to do something constructive. This is also putting our faith into action.” Fr Edu urged us in the UK to join the Philippines in the campaign for climate justice at the forthcoming Paris ministerial summit (COP21) on the environment.
