CAFOD update

September 12th and 13th (after mass)

CAFOD would like members of our parish to sign a petition calling on our Prime Minister to show leadership nationally and internationally to secure a fair and ambitious global climate deal at COP 21 (the UN's climate talks) in December to tackle climate change.

Your support is important and by signing, you can make a difference.

We are joining with Catholic groups worldwide to petition world leaders at the Paris summit as climate change creates climate extremes that is hitting the poorest people on hardest.

September 26th and 27th (Harvest Fast Day)

CAFOD will be making a Harvest Fast Day appeal, and envelopes will be attached to the Sunday bulletin.

Friday, October 2nd

Brenda Sleep, Elizabeth Midgley and Philomena Rogers have kindly agreed to donate the proceeds of the Coffee and Cake sale after mass at 10:00 am to CAFOD's Refugee Appeal in Europe. CAFOD works with multi-agency partners in France, Italy, Germany and Greece to alleviate the plight of refugees by delivering blankets, housing, shelter and sanitary facilities, cooking utensils and programmes for children.

For information: John Shepherd, Chair, Fabric and Finance Committee of St John the Evangelist, and Ozzie ffield (J&P and CAFOD supporter), have submitted an application as part of a CAFOD competition to have an audit to seek ways of cutting energy cost. This is in line with the thoughts in Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si' Care of our Common Home:

"... while the existing world order proves powerless to assume its responsibilities, local individuals and groups can make a real difference." (Laudato Si', 179) Unquote
