His journey to the Priesthood began at Oscott College from 1963-1967 and was completed at the English College, Valladolid from 1972-1976. His formation included the receiving of a Teacher’s Training Certificate at De La Salle College of Education, Hopwood Hall, Manchester followed by two years of teaching at St John Wall Secondary, Birmingham. His first appointment as an Assistant Priest was at Holy Rood, Swindon for three years before being transferred to St Mary’s, Swindon for five years. From 1995-1998 he served the Parish of St Peter’s, Gloucester before his first appointment as Parish Priest of The Immaculate Conception, Stroud. In 2011 he was invited to serve his present Parish at St John the Evangelist, Bath. During this time he became a Canon of the Diocese of Clifton. During the Ruby Jubilee Celebration, Canon David rejoices in God’s blessings throughout his Priesthood and is grateful for all who are present with him today, especially his family from Bristol and Spain, former parishioners and his spiritual family here in the City of Bath.
He is delighted to have the support of local Catholic Schools, pupils, teachers and parents. He extends a special welcome to all sisters and brothers in the Body of Christ and all local leaders who promote the cause of the common good in our City.
On Sunday 17th July 2016 a large crowd gathered at the Church of St John the Evangelist, South Parade, Bath to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Canon David Ryan.
Mass was followed by a special lunch in the Parish Hall.
