This is a simple, prayerful way to celebrate the Eucharist albeit at a distance. We still participate in this Mass by way of the prayer and the responses we make. Make this Mass part of your own prayer. Allow the Word of God to shape and fashion you; allow that Spiritual Communion with the Lord to sustain and nourish you at this moment in our lives.

Prayer for Spiritual Communion

Lord Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul.

Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you, now and forever.

The Mass and livestream schedule can be found in the weekly bulletin.

Father Christopher

Welcome to St John’s.

It’s good for us to be open again and to be able to welcome visitors, guests and our parish community across our threshold once more. Whilst we may not be open all day as we have been used to, it is good to have the doors opened wide to let people in. Our website continues to allow you to cross our threshold – albeit digitally. The website is not just about offering information; its about keeping people in touch with the parish community and with one another. This unique time of COVID-19 has seen parish boundaries stretched not just across a city but across countries and it has been touching to hear from people across the world linked up to St John’s. It is good to be able to welcome so many back to Mass in Church as well as an online community gathered together for prayer.

Much is still on hold but that doesn’t stop us from being a people of prayer and a people of hope and charity. Hopefully as we continue to emerge from our period of lockdown those relationships that have been built up will witness a continuation of reaching out to others.

The parish also has a Facebook page and this seeks to be a useful way of keeping people together and keeping them in prayer and reflection. It is not so much about the tidbits of news and trivia; it allows us to find space in isolation to stay connected and stay together as a community of faith, albeit remotely.

I hope you can find something useful to help you by way of connecting with one another through our daily livestreaming of the Mass or the Rosary.

Do come and visit. You’ll find the opening times of the church on the weekly newsletter and as things change week by week nationally, you’ll find we are able to open up just a little more each week to welcome you here in the centre of Bath. If you are in town and can pop into church then I look forward to bumping into you sometime soon.

May God watch over each and every one of us, and remind us – always – that he is near.

Fr Christopher
