A Handful of Singers concert - ‘Laudamus!’

A Handful of Singers' February concert ‘Laudamus’ is something of a celebration. Accompanied by the excellent period-instrument chamber orchestra Quorum, complete with natural trumpets and drums, celebration is the common theme of the three Te Deum settings by Handel, Charpentier and Haydn.

Whether commissioned by the wife of the Holy Roman Emperor, Empress Marie Thérèse (Haydn), written to celebrate the Anglo/Austrian victory at Dettingen (Handel), or with an opening Rondeau better known as the theme tune of the European Broadcasting Union and frequently played at victory celebrations (Charpentier), together they provide a joyful, exciting programme. Handel’s ever-popular anthem for the coronation of King George II, Zadok the Priest, starts the celebrations.

A highly-acclaimed choir of 24 singers, A Handful of Singers is directed by its award-winning conductor, Christopher Finch.

Quorum, an elite period-instrument ensemble founded in 2014 and based in the southwest, is led by Alison Townley.

The concert is at St. Mary the Virgin, Bathwick, Darlington Street, Bath, BA2 4EB at 8:00pm.
